Celebrate National Business Women’s Week during the third week of October by nominating a dedicated woman for the SWAN Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement or Rising Swan awards. These awards are designed to recognize and honor women who have made extraordinary, recognizable contributions within the communities we serve. Each year, through the Women of the Year program, SWAN provides the opportunity to recognize multiple award recipients in the categories of Professional Achievement, Mentorship of Women, Transformative Leadership, and Community Engagement as well as celebrating the Rising Swans in the next generation of leaders. Additionally, SWAN may recognize one Lifetime Achievement award recipient. These honorees have dedicated their lives to serving others.

A Woman of the Year nominee should demonstrate excellence in ONE OR MORE of the following categories:

  • Professional Achievement: They are an accomplished expert in their field and have remained successful both in their professional and business endeavors.

  • Mentorship of Women: They actively invest in the growth of other women. They are a proven mentor to the women of our communities.

  • Community Engagement: They have made an impact in their community, servicing local charitable or non-profit groups. They volunteer for events that enhance the quality of life in Skagit County.

  • Transformative Leadership: They contribute to efforts that enact social change toward a healthy and just community for all.

A Lifetime Achievement nominee should demonstrate the following:

  • Lifetime Achievement: They have dedicated their lives to their professional achievements, mentorship of women, community engagement activities and transformative leadership endeavors.

A Rising Swan nominee should demonstrate the following:

  • Rising Swan: They are emerging and growing in their professional achievement, mentorship of women, community engagement and transformative leadership endeavors.

Eligibility:

The nominee must live or work in Skagit County and actively contribute to the community they represent. The nominee must be able to attend the SWAN Woman of the Year Banquet & Awards Ceremony, which is typically held on the third Thursday in October at the Swinomish Casino & Lodge from 5 to 8 pm.

Nomination Process:

In an effort to further the empowerment of women in Skagit County, SWAN has eliminated the interview process and is, instead, requiring nominators to provide additional detail and supporting information to assist the SWAN Board of Directors and Selection Committee in their review and decision-making processes. The new process will entail all nominees attending the Nomination Celebration in August. At this event, all nominees will receive a certificate of recognition for their contributions to our community. The SWAN Board will also announce the Rising Swan(s) award recipients and the four Woman of the Year award recipients (without disclosing their respective category). The Rising Swans, Lifetime Achievement,  and four Woman of the Year recipients will attend the Woman of the Year Banquet in October to accept their awards in their respective category and to be celebrated for their contributions to our community.

SWAN accepts nominations year-round and will contact nominators and nominees annually by August 10th.
